Florence is an amazing city. No one forgets the first time they set foot in this Italian city, and they always plan to return. In this article, we will leave you all the key information of what to see in Florence in two days, as well as discounts for museum tickets and excursions, recommendations and tips on where to eat, hotels to stay, and a general map with everything important to visit in Florence.

What to see in Florence on a weekend

Let and I arrived in Florence after touring Tuscany by car coming from Cinque Terre. We crossed the 5 most beautiful villages in Tuscany and finally spent the night in the cradle of Renaissance art. It was already my fourth time in Florence, but as I said before, from Florence you go knowing that you will return to Florence. And I am not saying it because of the legend that I will tell you later in the article, I am saying it because it is an eternal city.

It is true that seeing Florence on a weekend is a short time, but it will always be a few days whenever you go. Whether it’s 2, 3, or 50, Florence is visited in an eternity.

Still trying to compress everything Firenze has to offer, we are going to see a weekend route, with the essentials. We will also see discounts on accommodation to sleep without stabbing you (because maaaadre mine go prices that art is spent).

You can actually get a lot out of it if you only have two days to visit Florence. It is a comfortable city for walking and most of the tourist places to see are quite close to each other.

It is worth that I come from living in Madrid, which is completely beyond reach, but I think that Florence is perfect for exploring it quietly, enjoying its streets.

We will see the Piazza del Duomo and the Cathedral, with its imposing Brunelleschi dome. The Ponte Vecchio and Michelangelo ‘s David, to Santa Maria Novella and … .. well, I will not do more spoilers!

What to see in Florence: 2 days of art in Italy

  1. Piazza del Duomo
  2. Piazza della Signoria
  3. Ponte Vecchio
  4. Academy Gallery
  5. Uffizi Gallery

1. Piazza del Duomo

Probably the iconic place of the Italian city and one of the tourist places where you will burn the button to take photos.

The Cathedral, Giotto’s Campanile and the Battistero di San Giovanni make such a photographic ensemble that they will have to drag you out of there.

The dome of the cathedral, the work of Brunelleschi, is perhaps the most famous image of the city. It is recommended to go around it to see its magnitude at all angles.

2. Piazza della Signoria

Another of the most recommended places to see in Florence is the marvelous Piazza della Signoria. In it you will always find musicians and atmosphere at night.

Its most characteristic building is the Palazzo Vecchio, and at its entrance a monument to Adam and Eve, and a copy of Michelangelo’s David among many other figures.

3. Ponte Vecchio

Aaaaah the Ponte Vecchio. Here all the tourists come to see how the little houses of the bridge paint the last sun of the afternoon.

The reddish colors on the bridge are accompanied by the click of the photo cameras (well, now in the 21st century it is no longer …).

4. Accademia Gallery

At the beginning of the 16th century, Michelangelo sculpted his masterpiece: David. Made of white marble, it stands 5.17m tall and represents the brave man before facing his arch-enemy Goliath.

Formerly located at the entrance of the Palazzo Vecchio, in the Piazza della Signoria, it was transferred to the inside of the Accademia Gallery in 1873 to protect it from rain and wind.

5. Uffizi Gallery

They say it is the most visited place in all of Florence. Inside you can find classic works as mythical as Botticelli’s Birth of Venus, or the Adoration of the Magi by Leonardo Da Vinci himself.
